Hill Walking
The Comeragh Mountains are one of Ireland's best kept secrets. Here you will find hill walks of all kinds with spectacular views, hidden lakes, beautiful valleys, wild waterfalls and rocky crags. Some of the larger tracks are suitable for mountain biking. The Munster Way (part of the national network of way-marked trails) passes by us. There is also a series of mapped trails locally, varying from 5 to 15km, for low level walking.
Stone Circles, standing stones and other ancient remains.
The area is rich in megalithic remains, including stone circles, standing stones, megalithic tombs, large circular structures thought to be walled settlements and 'Fulacht Fia' or cooking sites.
Fulacht Fia often occur as horseshow shaped banks. In the banks are remains of fires. It is thought that meat was cooked in a pool of water in the centre, the water being heated by dropping in hot stones from the fire. The early inhabitants - Bronze Age, C1500bc - of the area had no cooking pots or other containers.
Clonmel has good shopping facilities not to mention plenty of bars (some with great music sessions to the wee hours) and restaurants.
