The Main Guard - Built in 1675 by the first Duke of Ormond, the Main Guard is one of the earliest Irish transitional classical civic buildings. Originally used at the Court House (until 1715), a plaque on the facade has the duke's coat of arms. Converted into shops and dwellings around 1810, in the early twenty first century the Main Guard was restored to its original form as the dominant building at the junction of Clonmel's two main streets.

Other interesting sights to see include sections of the old walls, St. Mary's Chuech, the West Gate and Fransiscan Friary.

What's in a name! - In the old days when a person went to the well for water, the bucket invariably stirred up sediment from the bottom. The Power family stuck a huge old cast-iron cauldron into the well. The water flowed through the 'pot' and was clear of sediment. As hundreds of the Power clan lived in the Waterford region, they became known as 'Powers of the Pot'. The same pot can be seen today on the opposide side of the road to the caravan park.

Clonmel (Cluain Meala - Honey Pastures) Locals say the town was founded by Norsemen who travelled up the river Suir from Waterford, probably around the 13th century. Like Waterford it became a walled town loyal to the English Crown. The town was besieged in 1516 and later in 1650 by Cromwell, resulting in the imposition of a Protestant oligarchy for the next two centuries. Clonmel became an important market town in the 18th century as well as being the centre of brewing and distilling. Cider is still brewed today in Clonmel. In 1815 the first public transport system (horse drawn coach) was set up by Charles Bianconi, between Clonmel and Cahir. By 1843 the service had expanded to cover most of the country. Bianconi became mayor in 1844, the first Catholic to hold the office in more that 150 years. Today Clonmel is a thriving town with tourism, services and manufacturing playing an important role.
